23 Now it happened (A)in the process of time that the king of Egypt died. Then the children of Israel (B)groaned because of the bondage, and they cried out; and (C)their cry came up to God because of the bondage. 24 So God (D)heard their groaning, and God (E)remembered His (F)covenant with Abraham, with Isaac, and with Jacob. 25 And God (G)looked upon the children of Israel, and God (H)acknowledged them.

Moses at the Burning Bush(I)

Now Moses was tending the flock of (J)Jethro his father-in-law, (K)the priest of Midian. And he led the flock to the back of the desert, and came to (L)Horeb, (M)the mountain of God. And (N)the Angel of the Lord appeared to him in a flame of fire from the midst of a bush. So he looked, and behold, the bush was burning with fire, but the bush was not consumed. Then Moses said, “I will now turn aside and see this (O)great sight, why the bush does not burn.”

So when the Lord saw that he turned aside to look, God called (P)to him from the midst of the bush and said, “Moses, Moses!”

And he said, “Here I am.”

Then He said, “Do not draw near this place. (Q)Take your sandals off your feet, for the place where you stand is holy ground.” Moreover He said, (R)“I am the God of your father—the God of Abraham, the God of Isaac, and the God of Jacob.” And Moses hid his face, for (S)he was afraid to look upon God.

And the Lord said: (T)“I have surely seen the oppression of My people who are in Egypt, and have heard their cry (U)because of their taskmasters, (V)for I know their [a]sorrows. So (W)I have come down to (X)deliver them out of the hand of the Egyptians, and to bring them up from that land (Y)to a good and large land, to a land (Z)flowing with milk and honey, to the place of (AA)the Canaanites and the Hittites and the Amorites and the Perizzites and the Hivites and the Jebusites. Now therefore, behold, (AB)the cry of the children of Israel has come to Me, and I have also seen the (AC)oppression with which the Egyptians oppress them. 10 (AD)Come now, therefore, and I will send you to Pharaoh that you may bring My people, the children of Israel, out of Egypt.”

11 But Moses said to God, (AE)“Who am I that I should go to Pharaoh, and that I should bring the children of Israel out of Egypt?”

12 So He said, (AF)“I will certainly be with you. And this shall be a (AG)sign to you that I have sent you: When you have brought the people out of Egypt, you shall serve God on this mountain.”

13 Then Moses said to God, “Indeed, when I come to the children of Israel and say to them, ‘The God of your fathers has sent me to you,’ and they say to me, ‘What is His name?’ what shall I say to them?”

14 And God said to Moses, “I AM WHO I AM.” And He said, “Thus you shall say to the children of Israel, (AH)‘I AM has sent me to you.’ ” 15 Moreover God said to Moses, “Thus you shall say to the children of Israel: ‘The Lord God of your fathers, the God of Abraham, the God of Isaac, and the God of Jacob, has sent me to you. This is (AI)My name forever, and this is My memorial to all generations.’ 16 Go and (AJ)gather the elders of Israel together, and say to them, ‘The Lord God of your fathers, the God of Abraham, of Isaac, and of Jacob, appeared to me, saying, (AK)“I have surely visited you and seen what is done to you in Egypt; 17 and I have said (AL)I will bring you up out of the affliction of Egypt to the land of the Canaanites and the Hittites and the Amorites and the Perizzites and the Hivites and the Jebusites, to a land flowing with milk and honey.” ’ 18 Then (AM)they will heed your voice; and (AN)you shall come, you and the elders of Israel, to the king of Egypt; and you shall say to him, ‘The Lord God of the Hebrews has (AO)met with us; and now, please, let us go three days’ journey into the wilderness, that we may sacrifice to the Lord our God.’ 19 But I am sure that the king of Egypt (AP)will not let you go, no, not even by a mighty hand. 20 So I will (AQ)stretch out My hand and strike Egypt with (AR)all My wonders which I will do in its midst; and (AS)after that he will let you go.

Jesus a Third Time Predicts His Death and Resurrection(A)

32 (B)Now they were on the road, going up to Jerusalem, and Jesus was going before them; and they were amazed. And as they followed they were afraid. (C)Then He took the twelve aside again and began to tell them the things that would happen to Him: 33 “Behold, we are going up to Jerusalem, and the Son of Man will be betrayed to the chief priests and to the scribes; and they will condemn Him to death and deliver Him to the Gentiles; 34 and they will mock Him, and [a]scourge Him, and spit on Him, and kill Him. And the third day He will rise again.”

Greatness Is Serving(D)

35 (E)Then James and John, the sons of Zebedee, came to Him, saying, “Teacher, we want You to do for us whatever we ask.”

36 And He said to them, “What do you want Me to do for you?”

37 They said to Him, “Grant us that we may sit, one on Your right hand and the other on Your left, in Your glory.”

38 But Jesus said to them, “You do not know what you ask. Are you able to drink the (F)cup that I drink, and be baptized with the (G)baptism that I am baptized with?”

39 They said to Him, “We are able.”

So Jesus said to them, (H)“You will indeed drink the cup that I drink, and with the baptism I am baptized with you will be baptized; 40 but to sit on My right hand and on My left is not Mine to give, but it is for those (I)for whom it is prepared.”

41 (J)And when the ten heard it, they began to be greatly displeased with James and John. 42 But Jesus called them to Himself and said to them, (K)“You know that those who are considered rulers over the Gentiles lord it over them, and their great ones exercise authority over them. 43 (L)Yet it shall not be so among you; but whoever desires to become great among you shall be your servant. 44 And whoever of you desires to be first shall be slave of all. 45 For even (M)the Son of Man did not come to be served, but to serve, and (N)to give His life a ransom for many.”
